Counseling on Access to Lethal Means
CALM is a best-practice interactive suicide prevention training that teaches practical skills to reduce risk by increasing time and distance between individuals in crisis and the most common, lethal means of suicide—especially firearms and medications. Training provides the rationale for means safety and helps participants recognize risk, start compassionate conversations, and collaborate on safety planning while respecting individual rights and autonomy.
Training is available virtual or in-person and lasts 4 hours. This training is for school-based mental health professionals and anyone in a professional helping role (e.g., case managers, school resource officers, school administrators, school nurses). Receive hands-on practice for having effective, collaborative conversations with students and families about reducing access to lethal means during periods of elevated risk.
